Active Learning Skills Childminder Online Course

The EYFS framework is based on the findings of the Tickell review of the EYFS, published in spring 2011. This placed a great deal of emphasis on the importance of practitioners recognising and understanding the ways in which young children learn, in order to support them as effective learners. One of the characteristics of learning it identified was ‘Active Learning’. This course will look at what exactly active learning is and how it relates to the wider EYFS. It will help you learn how to support active learning in your setting and how you can observe the children to assess this. The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  • To learn what ‘active learning’ is
  • To gain knowledge in relation to EYFS
  • To gain knowledge in relation to characteristics of effective learning
  • To learn about motivation in babies and young children
  • To gain an understanding of observing children
  • To learn how to support active learning
  • To understand the effects of screen time (usage and limits)
